Visitor tour - a look behind the scenes
Have you always wanted to know how an aromatic beer is made? Or how spirits are produced? Then our brewery and distillery tour is just the thing for you. You will discover all stages of production right through to the final product. The guided tour lasts approx. 90 minutes. The tour ends with a beer tasting.
So your visit goes
Experience a tour of the unique brewery in the Bernese Oberland and through the Rugen Distillery. Our guest guides guide you through the production and are sure to elicit one or the other secret or two.
Visiting hours by appointment
Tuesday to Friday: 9.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m. (last tour starts at 6.00 p.m.)
Saturday: 9.30 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. (last tour starts at 4.00 p.m.)
There are no tours on Mondays, Sundays and public holidays. The guided tours are offered in German. English and French possible on request.
Group sizes and prices
- Groups up to 10 persons flat rate CHF 280.- (incl. VAT)
- Groups from 10 persons CHF 28.- per person (incl. VAT)
The price includes a whisky tasting (dram), a beer aperitif (beer, Mountain Twister or mineral water) with pretzel as well as a stein as a souvenir.
Brewery tour
Reception and welcome (outside) - checkout (payment) - beer aperitif - cinema film (history) - brewhouse - laboratory - water treatment - fermentation and storage cellar - filtration - barrel filling - energy center - steam boiler - bottling - Rugen Distillery - whisky cellar - Rugen Gnuss-Wält.
Duration: approx. 90 minutes
Important to know
- The tour has many stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.
- The tour is at your own risk, any liability of Rugenbräu AG is excluded.
- There is a risk of slipping throughout the plant. Please wear good shoes.
- Please do not complete the tour in high military shoes with black soles.
- Photography and filming are permitted for private use only and only to the extent that the tour is not disturbed.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the tour.
- It is forbidden to touch any equipment; this applies in particular to all copper hoods.
- We reserve the right to exclude persons in an alcoholic state from the tour or to terminate the tour for this reason without refunding the amount paid.
- Rugenbräu AG is a certified food producer and Rugen "Gnuss-Wält" is a food store. In accordance with the laws in force in Switzerland for the production and sale of foodstuffs, it is not permitted to allow animals on the premises of Rugenbräu AG. For this reason, we ask that you do not bring dogs on tours of the brewery. Thank you for your understanding.
Arrival / Directions
Arrival by car
- The Rugenbräu has parking facilities for cars and car cars. Please indicate how many parking spaces you require when booking.
- No booking is necessary for visitors to the Rugen "Gnuss-Wält" without a longer stay.
Approach via Spiez
- on A8 - follow signs to Interlaken
- Turn slightly right onto Route 6/Route 11 to Interlaken-West/Beatenberg Habkern
- Continue on Därligenstrasse/Route 11/Route 6 à Pass the traffic circle
- Continue to Wagnerenstrasse in Matten bei Interlaken à Crossing Heimwehfluh
- Turn right onto Wagnerenstrasse
- Follow Wagnerenstrasse in the direction of Wilderswil
- Pass the rope and bike park (slightly left), past the Hotel Unspunnen
- The destination is on the right-hand side.
Directions via Brienz
- Take the A8 towards Interlaken
- Take exit 25-Wilderswil in the direction of Wilderswil/Grindelwald/Lauterbrunnen/Matten
- Drive in the direction of Matten
- Take route 6 to Wagnerenstrasse in Matten near Interlaken
- Turn right onto Gsteigstrasse
- Gsteigstrasse turns right and becomes the main road
- Continue on Wychelstrasse
- Turn left onto Wagnerenstrasse
- Follow Wagnerenstrasse in the direction of Wilderswil
- Pass the rope and bike park (slightly left), past the Hotel Unspunnen
- The destination is on the right-hand side.
Access by public transport (train via Bahnhof Ost or Bahnhof West, boat via Lake Brienz and Lake Thun or East and West railroad stations):
- The Rugenbräu is not connected to the public transport network
- The Rugenbräu can be reached on foot from Interlaken West station via Rugenstrasse: 2.9 km approx. 45 minutes
- Cabs are available at Interlaken West and Ost train stations
IMPORTANT: The Rugenbräu does not offer a shuttle service!
